‘We provide food... to sustain lives’
Providing food for our displaced people in Sudan today is not merely a matter of staving off hunger; it is a pillar of dignity and a guarantee that families will remain united in the face of the storms of war and displacement. It is for this reason that the Ikha’a and Education Endowment launched the “Feeding the Resilient” project, driven by our conviction that the pride of the Sudanese people must not be broken by a mere morsel of food, and that the hardships in the shelters must not extinguish the glimmer of hope in the eyes of fathers and mothers.
At the Endowment, we do not merely provide a ‘meal’, but a ‘message of brotherhood’. This project targets displaced families who have lost their livelihoods, by providing daily hot meals that bring warmth back to their temporary homes, and distributing comprehensive food parcels that sustain families and protect them from the humiliation of need. We strive to provide the minimum level of food security that protects children from malnutrition and gives adults the strength to remain patient.
We believe that our solidarity with our people in displacement centres is an investment in the ‘well-being of society’; for building begins with a healthy body and a peaceful mind, and it is these displaced people who will return tomorrow to cultivate the land of Sudan and rebuild its cities once the war comes to an end.
Through this project, we are building bridges of cooperation between benefactors and needy families across Sudan’s various states and displacement camps, to raise a generation that is not worn down by hunger, that holds fast to its values, and that is able to overcome adversity with dignity and resilience.
