The Eid Al-Adha Charity Campaign

The sacrifice is a great ritual of Islam and an established Sunnah for those who are able to perform it; its purpose is to draw closer to Allah the Almighty and to feed the poor and needy on the day of Eid. Given the exceptional circumstances facing the people of Gaza

due to the war and the blockade, where livestock is unavailable, it is not possible to perform the sacrifice in the usual manner, nor can it be fulfilled with frozen meat; this necessitates seeking lawful alternatives that achieve the intended purpose.

Accordingly, it is permissible for the people of Gaza to intend to perform the sacrifice and to feed their families and the poor from the available meat with the intention of drawing closer to Allah, in the hope of receiving reward. It is also recommended for the people of Jerusalem and the West Bank, given the challenges they are facing , to honour this ritual as best they can and to help bring joy to the poor and needy.

As for benefactors outside Palestine, one of the best acts of devotion at this stage is to combine performing the sacrifice in their own countries with supporting the people of Gaza, Jerusalem and the West Bank by sending the cost of the sacrifices or donating to provide meat

and distributing it to the needy on the day of Eid. For those unable to do both, channelling the cost of the sacrifice towards relief for these areas is the better and more rewarding course of action, as it brings about a wider benefit and brings joy to those in need.

It is an opportunity to bring joy to homes worn down by the siege, to bring a smile to faces weary from waiting, and to revive a great tradition in hearts that still yearn for the joy of Eid.

The Brotherhood and Education Endowment emphasises that reward is linked to sincerity of intention, and that supporting the people of Gaza, Jerusalem and the West Bank in these circumstances is one of the greatest acts of righteousness and charity.
